Rate structures
The right structure depends on your peak demand, load profile, risk tolerance, and how predictable your operating budget needs to be. Most Texas commercial accounts fit one of these six.
Single per-kWh rate that includes energy + capacity + transmission. Easiest to compare. Best fit for small commercial under ~10 kW peak demand.
Separate energy + demand charges. Demand = highest 15-min peak each cycle. Standard for accounts above 10 kW. Pays to flatten your load profile.
Different per-kWh rate for on-peak vs. off-peak hours. Wins for accounts that can shift load (warehousing, cold storage, industrial). Penalizes 9-5 office use.
Buy a block of fixed-priced energy plus a floating market index for the rest. Mid-market sweet spot — partial price stability without overpaying for full hedge.
Wholesale market index plus a margin. Most exposure, lowest typical cost in stable markets. For sophisticated buyers with risk tolerance and load flexibility.
Standard commercial rate paired with Renewable Energy Certificates. Use this if you have an ESG mandate or sustainability reporting requirement. Premium is ~$0.001-0.003/kWh over standard.
Plan teaser
Real Texas residential plans that translate cleanly to small commercial accounts under 10 kW peak demand. For demand-metered or large commercial accounts, request a custom quote — marketplace plans aren't designed for that load profile.
