Privacy Policy

ChooseMyPower.org ("we," "us," or "our") operates this website to help Texas residents compare electricity plans. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

What we collect

• Information you provide: ZIP codes, usage estimates, and contact info if you opt in (email signups, callbacks).
• Automatic data: Browser type, device, pages viewed, referrer URL — standard server + analytics logs.
• Analytics: Convex, for first-party aggregate counts: page views, outbound enrollment clicks, ZIP lookups, and feedback submissions. PostHog, for product analytics and session recording — see below. Google Analytics, for audience measurement. No personally identifying information is sold or shared with third-party advertisers.

Session recording

We record how the site gets used — which pages you opened, where you clicked, how far you scrolled — and watch those recordings back to find what's broken. A dead button throws no error and nobody files a ticket about it; watching someone hit it is often the only way we find out. This runs on every visit.

What you type is hidden before it leaves your browser. Every form field is masked by the recorder itself — email, name, ZIP, all of it — so a recording arrives with the boxes blanked out. We never receive the contents.

The bill upload area is left out of recordings entirely rather than just masked, because choosing a file displays its filename and those routinely contain someone's name.

PostHog processes the recordings for us and they are deleted after 30 days. We don't record the admin area of this site.

Bill uploads for verified reviews

When you write a review, you can choose to upload a copy of your electricity bill. It's optional — you can skip it and still post a review.

If you do upload one, we use it for a single purpose: to confirm you're a real customer of the provider you're reviewing, so we can mark your review as a verified customer. One person on our team looks at it. We don't publish it, we don't sell it, and we don't use it for anything else.

We delete the bill as soon as we've verified you — or declined to. It isn't kept around, and it never appears on the site. The only thing that stays is a small badge on your review. If you upload a bill but never finish posting the review, nobody ever looks at it and it's deleted automatically within 30 days.

What we don't do

• We do not sell your personal information to retail electricity providers.
• We do not run pay-to-rank placement — provider rankings are independent.
• We do not store credit card or payment information. Enrollment happens off-site at ComparePower.com.

Third parties

When you click an enroll/checkout link, you leave choosemypower.org for the provider's own site (typically ComparePower.com). Their privacy practices apply from that point forward — review their policy separately.

Your choices

You can limit analytics through your browser settings, including any Do Not Track preference; a tracker blocker will also stop session recording. For data-access or deletion requests, email our contact page.

Changes to this policy

We update this page when our practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
