TXU is the most recognizable name in Texas power, and it earns part of the reputation — 24/7 support that customers actually praise, the most inventive plan lineup of any large REP (Free Nights & Solar Days, Season Pass, solar buyback), and the Vistra balance sheet behind it. You pay for the brand. Straight fixed plans run 15–25% above budget competitors, there's a $9.95 monthly base fee, and renewal offers are steep enough that only about a third of customers feel they're paying a fair rate. The structured plans reward households that can shift load to nights or summer peaks; everyone else is funding the marketing.
