Three things to check before signing.
Watch the 1,000 kWh threshold
At 900-1300 kWh/mo, you're right at the bill-credit edge. Some months you'll hit 1,000 kWh and the credit kicks in; some you won't. Pick a plan whose 500 and 1,000 kWh rates are close together, so the gap doesn't matter.
Pick short terms — leases turn over
A 24- or 36-month plan with a $720 cancellation fee is a problem if you move at lease-end. Stick to 6-12 month plans, or month-to-month if you don't know your next address.
Same-day connection for new leases
Most REPs can activate service in 1-3 business days. If you need same-day for a fast move, several Texas REPs (TXU, Reliant, 4Change) have a "switch-on-demand" option for a fee.
