Regulation

How Texas regulates power.

The PUCT writes the rules. ERCOT runs the grid. Your REP sells you the bill. Here's the regulatory framework that protects you — and how to invoke it when something goes wrong.

Need to file a complaint?

The PUCT handles disputes.

If your retail provider has billed you incorrectly, refused to honor disconnect protections, or failed to provide required disclosures, the Public Utility Commission of Texas has an enforcement path that works. Contact your REP first; if unresolved in 21 days, file with the PUCT.

Pick a provider with a strong track record

The best way to avoid invoking your customer-protection rights is to pick a REP that doesn't make you. Compare plans from providers with verified ratings.
