How Rate Comparison Works

When you compare electricity plans, the advertised rate only tells part of the story. A plan at 10.5¢/kWh might look cheaper than one at 11.2¢/kWh — but after factoring in base charges, bill credits, and tiered pricing, the "more expensive" plan could actually save you money depending on how much your home uses each month.

Our rate comparison tool lets you place plans side by side and see the estimated monthly bill at your specific level. No guessing, no spreadsheets — just a clear answer about which plan costs less for your home.

What You'll See

Monthly Bill at Your Level

Your estimated bill for each plan, calculated at how much electricity your home actually uses — not the 2,000 kWh benchmark.

Cost Across Multiple Levels

See how each plan performs at 500, 1,000, 1,500, and 2,000 kWh so you know how costs shift if your electricity needs change seasonally.

Fee Breakdown

Base charges, delivery fees, energy charges, and credits — broken out clearly so you understand where your money goes.

Contract Details

Term length, early termination fees, renewable energy content, and other plan details that affect your decision beyond price.

Why two plans with the same rate can cost different amounts

Texas electricity plans have complex pricing structures. One plan might include a $9.95/month base charge with a lower energy rate, while another has no base charge but a higher per-kWh rate. Some plans offer bill credits at specific thresholds — use more or less than that, and the credit disappears.

The only way to know which plan truly costs less is to calculate the total at your home's actual level. That's exactly what this tool does.
