The company keeps their plans simple and their pricing transparent, targeting customers who want to understand exactly what they’re paying for without wading through complicated rate structures or bundled services.

As a mid-sized Texas REP, Think Energy has carved out a niche among shoppers who value clarity over brand prestige. They don’t run flashy marketing campaigns or offer elaborate rewards programs. Instead, they focus on delivering competitive rates with honest plan structures.

Plan Options

Think Energy offers a focused selection of residential plans:

• Fixed-rate plans — Lock in a rate for a set contract term, typically ranging from 6 to 24 months. These plans are designed to be easy to understand, with straightforward pricing that doesn’t rely on complicated tier structures or conditional discounts.
• Variable-rate plans — Month-to-month pricing that adjusts based on wholesale market conditions. No contract and no early termination fee, but also no price protection.

Think Energy doesn’t offer specialty plans like free nights, solar buyback, or time-of-use options. Their focus is on doing the basics well rather than layering on features.

What to Watch For

Think Energy’s transparent approach is refreshing, but it doesn’t guarantee the lowest rate. Their plans are often competitive, but it’s still essential to compare against other providers using the Electricity Facts Label. Check the all-in price at the kWh level that matches how much your home draws in a typical month.

The company serves three of the four major TDU territories in Texas. If you’re in a TNMP area, Think Energy won’t be available to you.

Because Think Energy is a smaller provider, their plan availability can be more limited than what you’d find at a large company like TXU or Reliant. At any given time, you might see only a handful of options. For customers who find the electricity shopping process overwhelming, this can actually be an advantage — fewer choices means a faster, less stressful decision.

Their customer service is handled by a smaller team, which means you may experience longer hold times during busy periods. For customers who manage their accounts online and rarely need phone support, this trade-off is minor.

Service Territory

Think Energy serves customers in Oncor (Dallas-Fort Worth), CenterPoint (Houston), and AEP Texas (Corpus Christi, South Texas) territories. They are not currently available in TNMP areas.
