Our Energy Overview
Our Energy is a newer entrant in the Texas electricity market, launching in 2018 out of Houston. The company’s approach is built around a simple promise: no gimmicks, no confusing rate structures, and no hidden fees. In a market where some providers use complicated pricing tiers, conditional discounts, and minimum-consumption credits to make their rates look better than they are, Our Energy aims to be the antidote.
As a small, independent provider, Our Energy doesn’t have the marketing budget or brand recognition of companies like TXU or Reliant. What they offer instead is straightforward plans where the price on the Electricity Facts Label is genuinely what you’ll pay.
Plan Options
Our Energy focuses on the basics:
- Fixed-rate plans — Locked-in pricing for set terms, typically 12 to 24 months. The pricing structure is designed to be simple — no bill credits that only kick in at certain consumption thresholds, no conditional discounts that require auto-pay enrollment.
- Variable-rate plans — Month-to-month pricing that adjusts with market conditions. No contract and no cancellation fee.
The no-gimmick philosophy means you won’t find free nights plans, rewards programs, or bundled services. What you will find is a clear rate that’s easy to compare against other providers on an apples-to-apples basis.
What to Watch For
Our Energy’s limited service territory is the first consideration. They only serve Oncor and CenterPoint areas, so customers in AEP Texas or TNMP territory won’t find them as an option.
As a small, newer provider, Our Energy has a shorter track record than established companies. They’re fully PUCT-licensed and regulated, so your electricity service is protected, but there’s less historical data to evaluate their long-term reliability and customer service quality.
The no-gimmick approach is genuinely helpful when comparing plans. Many larger providers use bill credits at the 1,000 kWh level that make their rates look artificially low for customers who draw exactly that amount but less competitive for homes that draw more or less. Our Energy’s simpler structure makes it easier to calculate your actual cost at any level of consumption.
That said, simple doesn’t automatically mean cheapest. Always compare Our Energy’s rates against other options at the kWh level that matches how much your home typically draws.
Service Territory
Our Energy serves customers in Oncor (Dallas-Fort Worth and surrounding areas) and CenterPoint (Houston metro area). They do not currently serve AEP Texas or TNMP territories.
