Chariot Energy Overview
Chariot Energy launched in 2018 with a focused mission: make solar electricity accessible and affordable for Texas homes. Backed by 8minute Solar Energy (one of the largest solar developers in the U.S.), Chariot offers 100% solar plans that are often priced competitively with conventional electricity.
Plan Options
- Fixed-rate solar plans — 100% solar energy at locked-in rates. Unlike Green Mountain, Chariot’s parent company actually develops and operates the solar farms that generate your electricity.
- Solar buyback plans — If you have rooftop solar panels, Chariot offers competitive buyback rates for excess energy you export to the grid.
What to Watch For
Chariot’s solar plans have closed much of the price gap with conventional electricity. In many months, their rates are competitive with or cheaper than non-green plans from other providers. Solar generation costs have dropped dramatically, and Chariot passes some of that through to customers.
The solar buyback offering is worth comparing carefully if you have panels. Different providers offer different buyback structures — some pay a flat rate per kWh exported, others use a bill credit system. The best deal depends on how much you export and when.
As a newer provider backed by a major solar developer, Chariot has the generation infrastructure but a shorter retail track record. They’re PUCT-licensed and regulated like every other Texas REP.
Service Territory
