Bounce Energy Overview

Bounce Energy launched in Houston in 2011 with a focus on rewarding customer loyalty. The company is a brand under Direct Energy, which is now part of Shell Energy. What sets Bounce apart from its corporate siblings is its emphasis on a rewards program called Bounce Bucks, which gives customers cashback, gift cards, and other incentives for staying on their plan and paying on time.

The rewards angle is Bounce’s main differentiator. Underneath the perks, they’re a standard Texas REP delivering the same electricity through the same wires as everyone else.

Plan Options

Bounce Energy offers several plan types:

  • Fixed-rate plans — Lock in a rate for a set term, typically 12 to 24 months. Many of these plans come bundled with Bounce Bucks rewards that accumulate over the life of the contract.
  • Variable-rate plans — Month-to-month pricing that changes with the market. No long-term commitment.

The Bounce Bucks program is the real draw. Depending on the plan, you can earn rewards like gift cards to major retailers, cashback credits on your bill, or other perks. These rewards are typically tied to milestones — for example, you might receive a gift card after 6 months, 12 months, and at the end of your contract.

What to Watch For

The rewards program is genuinely valuable for some customers, but it can also be a distraction. A $50 gift card at the end of a 12-month contract works out to about $4.17 per month. If a competing provider offers a rate that saves you $10 per month, the math doesn’t work in Bounce’s favor even with the rewards.

When evaluating Bounce Energy plans, always start with the actual electricity rate on the Electricity Facts Label. Calculate your estimated monthly cost based on how much your home typically draws, then layer the rewards on top to see the true all-in value.

Also pay attention to the conditions for earning rewards. Most require on-time payments and staying through the full contract term. If you cancel early or miss a payment, you may forfeit accumulated rewards on top of paying an early termination fee.
