Your ZIP code tells us which transmission and distribution utility (TDU) serves your area. Texas has five TDU territories, and each one has different delivery charges that affect your total bill. We find every plan available at your specific address from all licensed retail electric providers.

Tell Us About Your Home

This is what makes ChooseMyPower different. Most comparison sites show the rate at 2,000 kWh because that's what the Public Utility Commission requires on the Electricity Facts Label. But the average Texas home uses closer to 1,200 kWh per month.

At lower levels, base charges and minimum fees have a bigger impact on your real rate. A plan that looks like 8.5¢/kWh at 2,000 kWh might actually cost you 12¢/kWh at 1,000 kWh. We calculate your estimated monthly bill based on how much electricity you actually use.

Not sure how much you use? Check your last electricity bill — it shows your monthly kWh. Small apartment? 500–800 kWh. Average home? 1,000–1,200 kWh. Large home with pool? 1,500–2,500 kWh.
